Tweed Waterways

Whether you’re seeking some tranquil ‘me time’, or precious outdoor family time away from screens, exploring the nearby picturesque Scenic Drive to Peninsula Drive walk will be a rewarding activity – it’s only 1km from Sceniq.

This dog-friendly, wide (and mostly level) gravel track stretches an easy 4.8km (return), along the Birds Bay and Bingam Bay sections of peaceful Terranora Creek. Dotted with several seats and picnic tables, as well as a choice of sandy areas to dip in your toes (or more), it will take you around 1 hour to complete the return walk (maybe stop in at Seagulls Club for a sneaking refreshing bevvy to reward yourself when done!).

This beautiful creekside trail is perfect for jogging, biking or even fishing and you’ll often have the path to yourself. There’s parking at both ends of the walkway, and you’ll find the generally easy path is suitable for prams and wheelchairs, with just a couple of small bumps here and there.

For the keen fisher in the family, you’ll never lack options with the wildlife-rich Tweed River and Terranora Broadwater, local creeks and estuaries all close by. For a spot of primo beach and surf fishing, you’re also in luck. Only around 16 minutes’ drive will take you to wide stretches of white sand at Kingscliff and Casuarina and to Cabarita Beach and beyond.

Northern Rivers Rail Trail

An absolute beauty of an asset for residents and visitors alike, the Tweed section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail is an epic 24km ride from Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek. It wont be too long, and 2-wheel enthusiasts will be able to tick off the full 132km ride proposed through Northern NSW’s incredible natural scenery, On completion the rail trail will take you through the Byron Shire, Lismore City and all the way through to Casino. We can’t wait!

The Tweed section of the trail includes sealed and compacted gravel sections that meander through tunnels and over bridges (see main picture above). You’ll explore quaint Tweed villages as you set off from state heritage listed Murwillumbah Railway Station through Stokers Siding, Burringbar and Mooball before finishing at Crabbes Creek. Dotted along the way you’ll find cafes, galleries, picnic areas, toilets and bike pumps – and you should definitely stop in at the Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre.

This is a mostly level, gentle ride offering inclusive options to suit the whole family – whether using your own bikes, or one of many bicycles and e-bikes available to hire along the trail. There are even tours that will pick you and the bikes up at the other end and bring you back to your car at the start!

Beaches to Explore along the Tweed Coast
